So, it was my birthday a week ago. (I never post about my birthday on my birthday. I'm that much of procrastinator.) I got the third season of Doctor Who (finally). Martha is awesome, and I love her. Also, I can't decide whether the final episode was really awesome or really stupid.

But that's not important. What important is that I have a kitty! This is the most wonderful thing ever. Her name is Mazzie.

I need to take some pictures of her myself, rather than just the Humane Society's photo. But isn't she cute? Yes, she is. Don't try and pretend otherwise.

In other news, I've signed up for remixthedrabble and you should too. It's much less terror inducing that regular remix (or so I say), and you only have have written five stories of 100 words or more in a single fandom. Plus, you can choose to only write a remix or only offer your fics to be remixed. Or you can do both. So many options! Right now I'm the only person signed up for both Revolutionary Girl Utena and Count Cain/Godchild. This is a travesty. I know that I have Utena and Cain writers on my flist. Sign up and then I won't be lonely. And it will make things easier on the mods because they'll have more people to match up. Sign ups end today. (Yes, I know I should have posted this sooner. I think I've tidied things up regarding my BookMooch dilemma. Now I can worry about other things.

Not happy with my writing these days. I have two stories that I have yet to type up. Partly because I hate typing, but partly because I'm so dissatisfied. I know what they're supposed to be, so why isn't that what they are? Because I suck, that's why. Ha!

To completely change topics (I have a short attention span), I've been thinking of creating a gen drabble community. Every other type of fic has one! slashthedrabble, femslash100, drabble_a_trois, and of_the_moon100. But no gen. Would their be any interest in a gen drabble community? drabble_a_trois and of_the_moon100 don't get much traffic, and a gen focused comm would probably be even slower.

I should be doing schoolwork. But we all know that that's not going to happen, no?

Right, this is just a little late.

Right after b_hallward convinced me to sign up for remixthedrabble, I was struck by a frightening thought. What if if I was assigned to remix her? That would be bad. I would fail. Utterly and completely. Bad.

So, I just hoped that luck and random chance would be on my side. The assignments were sent out... and I got phoebe_zeitgiest. And then I raged at the unfairness of the universe. The whole idea of the remix is "If you wrote this fic, what would what it be like?". The problem is that writing wise Phoebe's and my brains work very differently. I simply never would have thought to write anything like the majority of her stories. Plus there's the whole "Fuck, this is brilliant; what if I mess it up?" thing.

I made a big angsty post about it, and who should comment but Phoebe. This lead to a conversation that was both comforting and rather awkward on my end.

Choosing what to remix was the first hard part. I was both drawn to and repelled by And Not Your Yellow Hair. On one hand, it's one of my favorite stories and I knew it would fascinating to remix. On the other hand, I also knew that it would be really freaking hard to remix. The Way We Weren't seemed the most logical choice. I ship Muraki/Ukyou/Oriya, and it was a subject I knew I could work with. So, there was no reason not to do it. But I felt ashamed for not trying And Not Your Yellow Hair. Was I afraid of a challenge? Was I a coward? I felt like I had to at least try. (Veleda: like a shounen hero in some ways.) So, I did both.

I finished with plenty of time (for once), and asked Dorian if she would beta. She said yes, and I sent the drabbles off. Or so I thought. She never got them. Yeah, my email provider sucks mightily. So, the day before everything was due, I finally worked up the courage to email her again, freaked when I realized the problem, I emailed the drabbles again.

So, Dorian liked them, Phoebe liked them, and I didn't have to kill myself or flee to the Sierra Nevada. Happy ending!
